Mr. Aucoin Guidance Counselor
My mission is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.
School counseling is conducted with students individually and in small groups when requested and/or determined appropriate. School counselors work predominately with school related issues. A school counselor is not a therapist. When issues go beyond the training of a school counselor, parents are encouraged to seek alternate sources of therapy for their child within the community. Some of my other responsibilities include the following:
·Coordinate student services in school
·Consult and provide support services to parents
·Provide consultation services to teachers and staff members
·Network with various schools and community organizations
·Maintain up-to-date resources to distribute to parents
·Facilitate referrals to community support services
·Conduct guidance lessons
We have implemented a very popular school-wide Caught Being Good program, which compliments the nationally recognized Peacebuilders Program that is used at Eastford Road School. When school staff members witness students being respectful and responsible learners, they present students with “Caught Being Good Fish”. There is a fish tank located in the main lobby of our school where students place the paper fish they have earned. Each Friday, we choose 10 Caught Being Good fish out of the fish tank, and we invite the winners down to the office to acknowledge their outstanding accomplishment. For more information on the Peacebuilders Program, you can go to www.peacebuilders.com.
